Dialogic - Safe on Your Way
For what it’s worth, my honest thoughts and first reactions to Dialogic’s new single ‘Safe on your way "‘

Dialogic aka. Tom Sykes is a name that I have heard being mentioned a lot in the local music scene (of which I’m looking forward to rejoining soon) but I have never had the pleasure of hearing, until now. It’s weird because I had created a sound to go along with the images I had seen of Dialogic playing live and imagined what the music would sound like, all that based on seeing a photo of him playing a Michael Kelly hybrid, semi hollow guitar……. yes, I’m weird.
So, I was really excited to hear that Tom had catered towards my laziness and released a single for me to listen to :-) I had my first listen in the car with my daughter and it immediately got her seal of approval because she was humming along to the chorus and didn’t call it “Dad’s weird music” and it certainly got my seal of approval too, I was hit by how well crafted and catchy the melodies are and how jealous I was of Tom’s voice (particularly that cool falsetto bit in the chorus) the chord progression never feels like it truly settles which is great as it keeps the song driving forward pretty effortlessly. I also got strong U2 vibes from the opening section with the big reverbs, delays and atmospheric synths which I should say would usually be a turn off for me (as someone who has tried to hop on the U2 wagon for years but cant quite manage to get hooked) but actually drew me into this song, I think because there is a lot more edge (pun now fully intended) to the vocal delivery.
On my second listen (guitar in hand, video above) I started picking out the chord progression (C#m/B/F#) - (ii - I - V) which reminded me of Tom Isaac’s - Wicked game progression, that cool, unsettled almost floaty yet agitated undercurrent, I like this progression a lot and is something I haven’t heard being used a lot and may steal….. (oops I mean borrow) I also really enjoyed the vocal layering and harmonies that made the chorus feel powerful and driven and also helped to breathe some new life into the later verses.
It fills me with great pride to see musicians so local to me doing their thing and absolutely smashing it, I genuinely love this track and look forward to hearing and seeing more of Dialogic in the future, if you get the chance please support new and original music by giving it a spin, liking, commenting sharing, all the usual good stuff.
Bravo! Dialogic! Safe on your way to making musical magic!
